Tariffs: Trade discussions between the U.S. and other nations are ongoing, but over the weekend, President Trump shared in a Fox News interview that he’s not expecting to extend the current 90-day pause on tariffs beyond the July 9 deadline. As reported by AP News, the administration is expected to let countries know that, unless agreements are reached, trade penalties could soon take effect.
Additionally, the U.S. and China have come to an agreement on tariffs and rare-earth magnets. According to the White House, Chinese imports will face a 30% tariff, while China will impose a 10% tariff on U.S. goods. The existing 20% tariff on Chinese fentanyl will remain in effect. In addition, China has agreed to lift export restrictions on rare-earth metals.
Peak Season: As of now, we’re not expecting a “typical” peak season this year, largely due to the tariff uncertainty. What we are seeing is stable rates in July, and if there’s any fluctuation it will be due to the tariffs.
