CMA CGM Reflags First of Four Ships
Last Thursday, CMA CGM stated they would be reflagging their 9,300-TEU container ship Phoenix under the U.S. flag. The company plans to also reflag another three vessels as part of their goal to triple their U.S. flagged fleet in the next four years, per the Journal of Commerce.
According to the company, the Phoenix — now the largest container ship ever to operate under the U.S. flag — was officially reflagged in Charleston. It will now serve on CMA CGM’s Indamex route, which links the U.S. East Coast with ports in India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Back in March, the company announced plans to invest $20 billion into the maritime/logistics industry in the U.S, specifically to the development of American maritime capabilities and help advance the U.S. administration’s priority to strengthen American shipbuilding capabilities.
